Alix & Murphy - a love story
Every horse and their owner will have a different bond, which will be beautiful and strong in it’s own way. For these two, its pure love and a constant hope and belief in eachother that always strikes me whenever I see them out and about - whether it be at a show or training at home, or simply going for a walk to eat some grass, they’re always trying for one another.
To tell us their story in a few more words, here is the lovely Alix on her beautiful OTT gelding Murphy.
Murphy came to live with me and my kids in May 2021. I had previously owned a beautiful mare, but unfortunately after a year of ups and downs, I realized we just weren’t a good fit for each other.
When I started searching for my next best friend, I was adamant that I wanted something that had “been there, done that”. That was dressage and showjumping educated, 7+ and NO THOROUGHBREDS.
When Murphy’s previous owner contacted me after seeing my “in search of” post on Facebook, the way she described him made me intrigued, and I organized to go and see him the following weekend. T
he moment I sat in the saddle, I breathed a deep sigh. Safe. That’s how Murphy made me feel. I drove up the following weekend with my float and my kids, rode him again and that’s how I ended up with a 6 year old OTTB with a background in showing.
Over time, Murphy came out of his shell more and more. His personality shines in the sweetest, softest way. He is willing ane kind. He tries so hard for me, yet tells me softly when it’s too much, too hard or he doesn’t quite understand the question.
Murphy and I train and compete in dressage. We recently stepped up to Novice together, and he continues to try his heart out for me everyday.
Lauren was able to really show his personality in our photo shoot. She has such a knack for catching those soft, special moments and I’m so grateful that she was able to show the beautiful side of Murphy that I’m lucky enough to see every day
